L.D. “Spike” Bailey CEO is a third-generation small business owner who grew up at the side of his father’s/grandfather’s business. As a serial entrepreneur Spike has been a founding member of more than a dozen companies and served as a board member of several other companies. For more than 30 years his clients were the CEO’s and CFO’S of Fortune 1000 private domestic and international corporations, large manufacturers, distributors, and service providers. Over the course of his career he structured and completed hundreds of millions of dollars in innovative financial driven transactions. He now dedicates much of his time to personally advising family companies who are serious about growing and passing their business on to their heirs.


 

Fergus Nolan CFO is a performance-driven, hands-on, flexible executive with an emphasis on fostering organizational integrity. His exceptional communication skills are proven in leading diverse international teams and negotiating with vendors while consistently completing complex multi-million-dollar initiatives on schedule and within budget with companies such as Procter & Gamble, Columbia Sportswear and Nike.

Fergus is a visionary entrepreneur leader, known for keen business acumen, with natural talent for building trusted, inspired and productive working relationships throughout the enterprise, and understanding the goals of multiple stakeholders. Background demonstrates the capacity to provide innovative solutions in achieving project goals, negotiating, influencing and balancing conflicting priorities, and making decisions to minimize risk while providing strong leadership in driving results.


 

Mike Martin COO has 35 years of experience in the printing and label converting industry. He is  the owner and CEO of Cleanmark labels in Portland, Oregon, with a subsidiary in Penang, Malaysia. Cleanmark Labels services the electronic, medical device and pharmaceutical industries on a worldwide basis. He is an active member in the community, serving on the Younglife board. 
 


 

Eric Bredesen Biomedical Engineer and Board Member brings 25 years of experience in engineering, IT and business development. Eric worked for Accenture (Minneapolis + Chicago) and Deutsche Bank (Frankfurt) and developed and captains his own company, Ideamerge. In the process Eric has accrued a broad skill set, making him our Swiss Army knife. Equally known for being detail oriented, Eric understands that business — especially international business — springs from humility, curiosity and integrity.


 

Simon Pestridge Board Member is a consumer-focused brand and business leader with experience in all global markets. Simon established himself driving complex turnarounds, building brand equity, and developing innovative consumer engagement models which add business value and return for shareholders. With 24 years of global experience at Nike and now Potato Head, Simon focuses on the following simple pillars he believes can build brands for the future:

  • Build a culture that innovates for the consumer always 
  • Deliver industry defining products or risk failure 
  • Value long term brilliance over short term gains 
  • Create positive social change 

Simon was born in the UK and has lived in Nigeria, Jordan, Hong Kong, Australia, America, China and now Bali. He is married with two daughters who are studying at university in the US.


 

Dr. Darren W. Johnson Ph.D. Advisor is Professor of Chemistry, Director of the Materials Science Institute, and Bradshaw and Holzapfel Research Professor in Transformational Science and Mathematics at the University of Oregon. Dr. Johnson obtained his Ph.D. from UC-Berkeley in 2000 and was an NIH post-doctoral researcher at the Scripps Research Institute from 2001-2003. His research draws inspiration from challenges in environmental, biomedical, and sustainable chemistry. Research in the group uses supramolecular chemistry as a tool to explore a variety of problems in self-assembly, molecule/ion recognition, and inorganic cluster synthesis. He is also co-founder of SupraSensor Technologies, a UO spinout that sought to commercialize remote sensors for nutrient management in precision agriculture and was acquired by The Climate Corporation in 2016.  He is a recipient of UO’s Martin Luther King Jr. Award, Faculty Research Mentor Award, the Research Innovation Commercialization Sustainability Award, the Innovation and Impact Research Award, and the Fund for Faculty Excellence Award. Dr. Johnson has co-authored over 135 peer-reviewed publications, is co-inventor on 14 pending and issued patents, and is an inaugural Senior Member of the National Academy of Inventors.
